Our commitment
PivotReset ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit pivotreset.com (the "Site") and use our tools, decision tools, and services. We never sell your personal information. Period.
Information we collect
Information you provide voluntarily
When you use our interactive tools (Recovery Path, decision tools, simulator, quiz), you may input financial information such as income, expenses, savings, debt amounts, and life event details. This information is processed entirely in your browser using localStorage and is never transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly create an account. We do not have access to decision tool inputs, Recovery Path data, or quiz responses unless you choose to share them.
If you subscribe to our newsletter, create an account, or contact us, we collect the information you provide: email address, name, and any message content.
Information collected automatically
When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device and browsing activity through cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies. This includes your IP address (anonymized), browser type and version, operating system, referring URL, pages visited and time spent on each page, and device type (desktop, mobile, tablet). We use this information to analyze site performance, improve user experience, and understand which content is most valuable to our visitors.
Cookies and tracking technologies
We use the following types of cookies. Essential cookies are required for the Site to function (e.g., remembering your decision tool inputs within a session, maintaining authentication if you have an account). Analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4) help us understand how visitors interact with the Site. Analytics cookies are configured with Google's Consent Mode v2: by default, no analytics cookies are set until you grant consent through our cookie banner. Advertising cookies may be set when we display advertising through Google AdSense, but only after you grant advertising consent. We do not use third-party behavioral advertising trackers, retargeting pixels, or data-broker cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings or our cookie preferences. See our Cookie Policy for the full list of cookies, their purposes, and durations.
How we use your information
We use collected information to operate and maintain the Site, improve and personalize your experience, analyze usage patterns to improve our tools and content, send newsletters and updates (only if you opt in, with one-click unsubscribe), respond to your inquiries and support requests, comply with legal obligations, and protect against fraudulent or unauthorized activity.
How we share your information
We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes. We may share information with service providers who assist us in operating the Site (hosting, analytics, email delivery) — these providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and use it only for the services they provide to us. We may also disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of PivotReset, our users, or the public.
Affiliate relationships
PivotReset does not currently participate in affiliate programs with financial service providers. We do not receive commissions from financial product recommendations made within calculator outputs or scenario results. If we establish affiliate relationships in the future, we will disclose them at the page level where they apply, and update this Policy accordingly. Editorial content and recommendations remain independent of any monetization arrangements. See our Disclaimer and Editorial Policy for further details on our independence.
Data stored in your browser
Our Recovery Path, decision tools, and quiz store data locally in your browser using localStorage. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to share it (e.g., by creating an account or using the accountability partner feature). You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser's local storage or using the "reset" function within our tools. We cannot access, recover, or view data stored in your browser's localStorage.
Data security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including SSL/TLS encryption for all data transmitted between your browser and our servers, secure hosting through Cloudflare with enterprise-grade infrastructure, regular security assessments and updates, and access controls limiting who can view user data. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data retention
We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Policy or as required by law. Specifically:
- Newsletter subscribers — email and subscription preferences retained until you unsubscribe, then deleted within 30 days of confirmation.
- Account data (if you create an account) — retained until you delete your account, after which it is deleted within 30 days. Encrypted backups may retain a copy for up to 90 additional days before being purged.
- Decision tool inputs and Recovery Path data — stored only in your browser via localStorage; we have no copy on our servers unless you explicitly save them to your account.
- Contact form submissions — retained for 12 months for support continuity, then archived or deleted.
- Analytics data (Google Analytics 4) — retained according to GA4's standard retention period (default 2 months for user/event data; can be configured up to 14 months). Aggregated, non-personally-identifying analytics may be retained indefinitely.
- Server logs — retained for 30 days for security and debugging purposes, then deleted.
- Legal and compliance records (such as records of consent or correspondence about a privacy request) — retained for up to 7 years as required by applicable law.
You can request deletion of your personal information at any time by contacting privacy@pivotreset.com. We respond to deletion requests within 30 days.
Children's privacy
The Site is not intended for individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 18, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@pivotreset.com.
Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, correct inaccurate information, delete your personal information, opt out of marketing communications, object to certain processing of your data, and request data portability. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@pivotreset.com. We will respond within 30 days.
California residents (CCPA)
California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete personal information, the right to opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information), and the right to non-discrimination for exercising privacy rights.
European residents (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to withdraw consent, the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, and the right to data portability. Our legal basis for processing is legitimate interest (providing and improving our services) and consent (for newsletter subscriptions and optional account features).
Third-party links
The Site may contain links to third-party websites, including financial service providers, government agencies, and educational resources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these third-party sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any site you visit through links on our Site.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be announced via a notice on the Site. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
